THE AGONY OF OUR LORD IN THE GARDEN

10. And He said to them: Why sleep you? Arise, pray, lest you enter into temptation. (Luke 22:46)

2. MYSTERY

THE SCOURGING OF OUR LORD AT THE PILLAR

1. And when morning was come, all the chief priests and ancients of the people took counsel against Jesus, that they might put Him to death. And they brought Him bound, and delivered Him to Pontius Pilate, the governor. (Matthew 27:1-2)

2. And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked Him, saying: Art thou the King of the Jews? Jesus said to him: Thou sayest it. (Matthew 27:11)

3. And when He was accused by the chief priests and ancients, He answered nothing. Then Pilate said to Him: Dost not thou hear how great testimonies they allege against thee? And He answered him to never a word; so that the governor wondered exceedingly. (Matthew 27:12-14)

4. Now upon the solemn day the governor was accustomed to release to the people one prisoner, whom they would. And he had then a notorious prisoner that was called Barabbas. They, therefore, being gathered together, Pilate said: Whom will you that I release to you, Barabbas, or Jesus that is called Christ? (Matthew 27:15-17)

5. But they said: Barabbas. (Matthew 27:21)

6. Pilate said to them: What shall I do then with Jesus that is called Christ? They said all: Let him be crucified. (Matthew 27:22)

7. The governor said to them: Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying: Let him be crucified. (Matthew 27:23)

8. And Pilate, seeing that he prevailed nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, taking water, washed his hands before the people, saying: I am innocent of the blood of this just man; look you to it. (Matthew 27:24)

9. And the whole people answering, said: His blood be upon us and our children. (Matthew 27:25)

10. Then he released to them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered Him unto them to be crucified. (Matthew 27:26)

3. MYSTERY

THE CROWNING OF OUR LORD WITH THORNS

1. Then the soldiers of the governor, taking Jesus into the hall, gathered together unto Him, the whole band. (Matthew 27:27)

2. And stripping Him, they put a scarlet cloak about Him. (Matthew 27:28)

3. And plaiting a crown of thorns, they put it upon His head. (Matthew 27:29)

4. And a reed they put in his right hand. (Matthew 27:29)

7. And they said: Hail, King of the Jews. (Matthew 27:29)

8. And they spit upon Him. (Matthew 27:30)

9. And they took the reed, and struck His head. (Matthew 27:30)

10. And after they had mocked Him, they took off the cloak from Him, and put on Him His own garments, and led Him away to crucify Him. (Matthew 27:31)

4. MYSTERY

THE CARRYING OF THE CROSS TO CALVARY

1. And they took Jesus, and led Him forth. (John 19:16)

2. And bearing His own cross, He went forth to that place which is called Calvary, but in Hebrew, Golgotha. (John 19:17)

3. And there followed Him a great multitude of people, and of women, who bewailed and lamented him. (Luke 23:27)

4. But Jesus turning to them, said: Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not over Me; but weep for yourselves, and for your children. (Luke 23:28)

5. For behold, the days shall come, wherein they will say: Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that have not borne, and the paps that have not given suck. (Luke 23:29)

6. Then shall they begin to say to the mountains: Fall upon us; and to the hills: Cover us. (Luke 23:30)

7. For if in the green wood they do these things, what shall be done in the dry? (Luke 23:31)

8. And as they led Him away, they laid hold of one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country; and they laid the cross on Him to carry after Jesus. (Luke 23:26)

9. And there were also two other malefactors led with Him to be put to death. (Luke 23:32)

10. And they brought Him into the place called Golgotha, which, being interpreted, is ‘The Place of Calvary.’ (Mark 15:22)

5. MYSTERY

THE CRUCIFIXION OF OUR LORD

4. And one of those robbers who were hanged, blasphemed Him, saying: If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. (Luke 23:39)

5. But the other answering, rebuked him, saying: Neither dost thou fear God, seeing thou art condemned under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this man hath done no evil. (Luke 23:40-41)

6. And he said to Jesus: Lord, remember me when Thou shalt come into Thy Kingdom. (Luke 23:42)

7. And Jesus said to him: Amen I say to thee, this day thou shalt be with Me in Paradise. (Luke 23:43)

8. And it was almost the sixth hour; and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. (Luke 23:44-45)

9. And Jesus crying out with a loud voice, said: Father, into Thy hands I commend My spirit. (Luke 23:46)
